Today’s album of the day is Live at the El Mocambo by Stevie Ray Vaughan

Recorded live during the SRV & Double Trouble Texas Flood Tour.

I might have missed the Stones in ’77, but I was there for this one – if you look closely at the audience shots at the 22:20 mark, you can almost see me!

Every track is a keeper, so here’s the whole hour-long concert recording. If you don’t have that long, listen in at 25:30 for the 9 minute guitar lesson that is Texas Flood.

Today’s album of the day is Official Music by King Biscuit Boy & Crowbar

Richard Newell grew up in Hamilton, ON listening to the blues. He was with Ronnie Hawkins, who nicknamed him King Biscuit Boy, for two years before Ronnie fired his backup band and they became Crowbar and released Official Music (as King Biscuit Boy & Crowbar) in 1970. Deja Vu all over again – in 1964 the Hawks split from Ronnie to become The Band.

My favourite track:

  • I’m Just A Lonely Guy

Today’s album of the day is Combat Rock by The Clash

The thinking man’s Punk band, if you see what I mean. Predominantly leftist lyrics with a little dub, reggae, ska, funk and rockabilly added to the punk-rock mix.

My favourite tracks:

  • Rock The Casbah
  • Should I Stay or Should I Go

Today’s album of the day is O Brother, Where Art Thou? Soundtrack by Various Artists

Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’, set in the deep south during the 1930s: three escaped convicts search for hidden treasure while pursued by a relentless lawman. Another Coen movie, strange but compelling. Bluegrass and American roots music … even a little yodeling!

My favourite tracks:

  • In The Jailhouse Now – Tim Blake Nelson
  • I’m A Man Of Constant Sorrow – Soggy Bottom Boys

Today’s album of the day is Trainspotting: Music from the Motion Picture by Various Artists

Before his gig as Artistic Director for the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, Danny Boyle directed some excellent movies, including Trainspotting which spawned today’s soundtrack AotD. While the movie could be shown in schools as a total drugs why-not education, the soundtrack is just full of good music.

My favourite tracks:

  • Lust For Life – Iggy Pop
  • Perfect Day – Lou Reed
