Simple bread recipe for a 1½ lb loaf with about ¼ the sodium of regular bread.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Bread Flour, white
- 1 cup Bread Flour, whole wheat
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- ¼ tsp Sea Salt, ground
- 1½ tsp Active Dry Yeast
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 9 oz Water, warm
Instructions
- Warm the water in the microwave, power level 7 for 1 minute.
- Pour warm water and Olive Oil into bread machine
- Add dry ingredients, saving Yeast until last - keeping Yeast away from liquid.
- Select White Bread cycle.
Notes
The Sea Salt is optional, I just prefer the taste!
To make 2 smaller loaves, 10 buns, or a combination of these, use the Dough cycle on the bread machine, push as much air as possible out of the dough before placing in bread pans and/or on baking sheet; cover with wax paper and set on a rack above a shallow dish of hot water for the final rise (20 minutes or so). Meanwhile, pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. When dough has risen, bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Note: Bread machines can be found in second hand stores, often brand new and never used.
Jan found our current Black and Decker machine in the Salvation Army store for $15.
