In a recent interview with Australia’s Drive.com, Jaguar’s chief engineer Kevin Stride confirmed that Jaguar are working on a plug-in hybrid system that will focus on an electric motor as its main source of power. A small traditional petrol engine wil be used as a charging system. This is similar to the approach taken by Chevrolet with the Volt.
According to Mr. Stride, electric motors are far more efficient than the internal combustion engine - they deliver maximum torque right across the revs range - and are thus preferable as the main power supply. He points out that this is a better technical option than that used by the Lexus hybrid and Toyota Prius.
