I’ve had another excellent idea (!) and launched yet another WordPress blog. This one is called Grey Brits and is a celebration of British connections in Grey County, Ontario, Canada.

I’ll be posting stuff under the broad headings of food, drink, motoring, music, and sports, with anything not covered in those headings being classed as The Cultural Glue that binds everything together.

First Snow of 2007/2008

We had our first real snow of the season overnight … the phone rang at 7:00 AM with the news that Amy’s school bus wasn’t running today. It then rang 5 minutes later when Amy’s boyfriend, Aarron, called to check that she was going to school. A few minutes later the alarm kicked in with our regular CBC Radio 2 wake-up!

After a warming breakfast, Jan shoveled the walk while I found the car in a large heap of snow in the driveway, and Amy was duly chauffeured to school.

It’s difficult to imagine that on Tuesday I was raking leaves, even the late roses were taken by surprise! Oh well, it’s all part of living in Snowin’ Owen Sound.

The MS Chi-Cheemaun arrived in Owen Sound, its traditional winter berth, yesterday afternoon. The ferry has been in Sarnia for the last two winters due to upgrades. Amy and I braved the chill and damp to join the crowd to welcome her “home”.
During the summer, the”Big Canoe” makes the 30 mile trip from Tobermory, at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, to Manitoulin Island. More details at the Ontario Ferries website.
